Sputnik 1

Sputnik is the name related to many adventures and histories. It was the very first artificial satellite launched from the earth. Currently, there are many documents and research reports, even many live videos and images are also found. But when Sputnik 1 was launched, that time it is absolutely difficult to gather a single video or image. And so, the curiosity of the common man was very high. Now apart from this curiosity, the mission of Sputnik 1 is also very important. With the launch of this satellite, the scientist had proved one fact that truly the impossible word is now an obsolete word. Many key facts were discovered from the journey of the satellite. So, Sputnik 1 is the evidence of the unique creation and achievement of the human civilization.

Now when you are discussing the satellite, then it is necessary to explore various facts regarding the Sputnik 1.

The facts are:

First satellite:  Sputnik 1 is regarded as the “Elementary Satellite 1” from the Russian perspective. It was launched into space by the Soviet Union on 4th October in 1957. It was placed in an orbit elliptical to the Earth. The orbit is actually a low orbit of the earth.

Unique structure:  The structure of this satellite is truly unique. It consists of a diameter of 58 come with completely polished and a metal look. The body also contains four very powerful radio antennas to throw or broadcast the essential radio pulses. The key feature of this satellite was that it was noticeable from every corner of the earth with the radio pulses being detectable from any part of the earth.

Generate competition:  One key fact regarding this development was the introduction of the competition between the major powerful countries who had not yet achieved this space development. Also, with this launch major changes took place in the technological, scientific, even military and political arenas of the world.

Send radio signals:  Not equipped with the current modern sensors this satellite still served the best by sending information about the upper layers of the atmosphere of the earth and the ionosphere. Actually, the radio signals with its unique calculation provided some very important information regarding the ionosphere. It is true that as the satellite was devoid of any kind of sensors, so it was difficult to study all the information from the earth.

 


The time of the launch:  International Geophysical Year was the actual time when Sputnik 1 was launched from the site at 5th Tyuratam range, presently known as the Baikonur Cosmodrome. The speed of the satellite was unique. It traveled the whole path with a speed of 29.000 km/hour. This speed took 96.2 minutes for covering one orbit. The rate of transmission was between the range 20.005 – 40.002 MHz, and the amateur radio monitored the complete thing. The transmission lasted 21 days, and on 26th October in 1957 it stopped when the batteries of the transmitter ran out permanently.  On 4th January in 1958 the satellite got burnt at the time of re-entering into the atmosphere of the earth.

So, the amazing satellite, Sputnik 1 completed 70m km path and stayed in orbit for about three months.
